The Monarch Joint Venture (MJV) is thrilled to collaborate with Covia to support pollinator conservation across the eastern monarch range.

This exciting collaboration takes two key forms:

Employee Engagement: This spring, MJV helped Covia distribute nearly 5,000 milkweed plugs to its employees, providing a tangible way for them to contribute to monarch conservation directly in their backyards. These plugs create essential habitat for monarchs, other pollinators, and many other species.

Dedicated Habitat: At Covia's Cleburne, Texas plant, a dedicated pollinator habitat project is underway. This project features a variety of native plants that will support a wide range of pollinators, including monarchs.

This effort demonstrates how we all can play a role in protecting biodiversity and creating a healthier future for monarchs and other pollinators.

“We are pleased to partner with Monarch Joint Venture in this effort,” said Kristin Lewis, Covia’s Community Relations Manager. “Our team is always excited when there’s a hands-on way to support projects, letting us go beyond just writing a check. The employees who planted the milkweed at home and at our Cleburne plant are looking forward to seeing this iconic and beautiful pollinator flourish and knowing that they personally made a difference.”

“The distribution of these milkweed plugs and habitat installations shows Covia’s commitment to bolstering the monarch butterfly population across its eastern range through high-quality habitat,” said Jake Koenig, MJV Midwest Habitat Coordinator. “Covia has been wonderful to work with throughout this effort, and we look forward to working with them and other corporations like them into the future to deliver these types of results across the landscape.”

The MJV encourages everyone to join our monarch conservation efforts. You can make a difference by creating habitats that include milkweed, the host plant for monarchs. This ensures their larvae have food and have a chance to grow into beautiful butterflies. Also including a diverse variety of native flowers that bloom throughout the growing season benefits many pollinators.

Together, we can make a difference for monarchs and other pollinators!
