The Monarch Joint Venture is excited to welcome Prairie Rivers of Iowa to the partnership! PRI is a nonprofit that works to conserve Iowa's cultural and natural resources. One of their major initiatives is the Watersheds and Wildlife Program, which works to improve water quality in local rivers and lakes and to restore habitat for Iowa’s imperiled pollinators and wildlife. This work is accomplished through robust education, monitoring, and partnership-building activities.

In 2019, Prairie Rivers of Iowa received a Conservation Partners Grant from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation to work with private landowners on habitat that improves water quality and benefits imperiled Iowa pollinators, including the monarch. Over the past two years, they have worked with landowners throughout Central Iowa and hosted several webinars and field days covering topics related to pollinator habitat creation, prairie restoration, and the overlap between habitat and water quality. This past year, Prairie Rivers of Iowa has been working on a new 5-year pollinator conservation program, which will launch in the fall of 2021.

Monarch Joint Venture has already started working with Prairie Rivers of Iowa through a collaborative habitat webinar co-presented by MJV, PRI, and the Bee and Butterfly Habitat Fund. We are delighted to expand our collaborations with an organization that is quickly becoming a leader in monarch and at-risk pollinator conservation in Iowa.
