The Hutchings Museum Institute is the MJV’s newest partner! Through their educational approach, the Hutchings Museum strives to spark curiosity, promote wildlife conservation, and ignite the spirit of exploration. The museum opened its doors in 1955, and is deeply rooted in culture, community, and education. Located in Lehi, Utah the museum is working to protect monarchs, and educate the public about monarch and pollinator conservation.

The museum runs several monarch way stations as well as an 80-acre field station and several community habitat restoration projects. Their Save the Monarchs program helps educate the public about monarchs and milkweed, sells milkweed seeds and starts, and encourages community members to plant monarch and pollinator gardens. They spread the message of monarch protection through their school outreach programs where they teach about the relationship between monarchs and native milkweeds and native plants, and what students can do to encourage monarch presence. Not only do they educate and encourage students and the public, they have also facilitated two city leaders to take the Mayor’s Monarch Pledge and are diligently working to secure more pledges from mayors around Utah Lake.

The Hutchings Museum Institute is an active player in the monarch community in Utah, and the MJV is excited to have their diligence and commitment to monarchs and pollinators as a part of the partnership. Their interest and enthusiasm in collaborating with MJV partners in the West to increase community science data and participate in monarch tagging will only strengthen network efforts, and the MJV is excited to welcome them into the partnership.
