The Monarch Joint Venture is happy to announce that the Virginia Tech Conservation Management Institute has joined the MJV partnership.
The Conservation Management Institute (CMI) is a research and engagement center within the Department of Fish and Wildlife Conservation, College of Natural Resources and Environment at Virginia Tech. Like MJV, CMI is a collaborative organization that works with both internal and external partners in its conservation efforts, working with state fish and wildlife agencies, federal lands, private conservation areas, and military installations to understand their needs and objectives and produce quality conservation solutions.
Among CMI’s many efforts is working with landowners to understand and provide management actions and recommendations. Through this work, CMI can ensure that MJV-recommended management actions are communicated to landowners and incorporated into their management plans. Most of CMI’s work takes place in the eastern U.S., from where CMI can provide data and contacts to MJV and other organizations in the MJV partnership to advance monarch and pollinator conservation efforts.
CMI also holds frequent educational and outreach events for students and the public to promote conservation, addressing the issue of natural resources conservation in multiple forms.
CMI believes that long-term conservation and resilience of natural resources require knowledge, management, and awareness by decision-makers. CMI equips these decision-makers with the assistance needed to gather information, synthesize it with purpose, and apply it for more effective natural resource management.
MJV is excited to welcome CMI to the partnership in support of monarchs and other pollinators across North America.
