The MJV is thrilled to welcome Friends of the Tonto National Forest to the partner network!
Friends of the Tonto National Forest (FOTNF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the Tonto National Forest (TNF) in its mission of natural and cultural resource management. Since 2016, FOTNF has led a variety of projects at TNF, including invasive plant management, monitoring initiatives, trail maintenance, and the preservation of interpretive historical sites.
One of their signature programs is Milkweeds for Monarchs, a habitat restoration project focused on creating and maintaining native milkweed habitats and monarch waystations within TNF. Over the past four years, volunteers have successfully grown and planted over 400 native milkweed seedlings across multiple sites. In addition, volunteers contribute to the Monarch Larva Monitoring Project (MLMP), providing critical data on monarch populations and migration patterns in the Southwest. The program also promotes pollinator conservation through educational presentations and hands-on fieldwork with groups like the Sierra Club and a local high school conservation club.
FOTNF brings valuable expertise in restoring and monitoring habitat in a unique ecosystem of the Southwest and their experience in community engagement and on-the-ground habitat restoration enhances our collective efforts. We are excited to welcome Friends of the Tonto National Forest to the MJV partner network and look forward to the valuable connections and support they will bring.
