Clarissa Ortega

Western Program Coordinator
Clarissa is the new Western (Science and Habitat) Program Coordinator and supports MJV in monitoring and conserving monarch butterfly and other pollinator habitats in the region. Her role supports M&MWHP participants and MJV partners using mainly the Integrated Monarch Monitoring Program (IMMP) survey protocol to help guide landowners/resource managers. She works with partners and participants to sustain and expand their habitats and attends community and education outreach events to increase our community efforts to preserve the monarch and its habitat. Clarissa is a Southern Californian who graduated from UC Santa Barbara with a B.S. in Environmental Studies. During her time in university, she had the opportunity to work on ecological restoration and familiarize herself with CA native and invasive species. Since she was a child she has loved the outdoors and has since grown to be passionate about conservation and restoration of natural habitats. Clarissa has had the opportunity to implement this experience at MJV and has been expanding her knowledge during her time here and will continue doing so. In her free time, Clarissa loves to read, travel to new places, and take pictures of cool plants.
