Carmen Elias
Field Technician, Monarch Butterfly Habitat Monitoring
As a Field Technician with Monarch Joint Venture, Carmen assists in conducting habitat assessment and long-term monitoring efforts. She performs standardized surveys of monarch butterflies and associated milkweed habitat across diverse landscapes in the Central California region. Her work collects high-quality ecological data, ensures rigorous protocol compliance using the Integrated Monarch Monitoring Program (IMMP), and contributes to science-based conservation strategies aimed at protecting and restoring critical monarch breeding and overwintering habitat. Carmen moved to California in 2018, and since then, she has spent most of her time learning about California’s biodiversity and ecology. As a graduate from UC Davis with a B.S. in Ecological Management and Restoration and a minor in Wildlife, Fish and Conservation Biology, she is passionate about restoring native landscapes and providing suitable habitat for the region's most vulnerable species.
