IMMP Training

Community scientists provide valuable data for monarch conservation through the Integrated Monarch Monitoring Program (IMMP). If you are interested in participating in the IMMP, follow these steps below.

First, understand that the IMMP is intentionally a robust program: it collects detailed information on monarchs and their habitat and may take 1-4 hours to conduct in the field. Teams of two observers are recommended for sites greater than 1 acre. By participating in the IMMP, you acknowledge that any activities associated with field monitoring are conducted at your own or your organization's risk, and that MJV shall not be held liable for any related injuries or unpermitted activities resulting from your participation. If seeking a quicker, more garden-based program, check out the Monarch Larva Monitoring Project!

Second, dedicate time to learning the protocol online or in person. See opportunities below. Training may take 1-3 hours online; in-person trainings are typically 1 full day.

Third, practice your knowledge by taking the quizzes below, and give yourself plenty of time during your first survey to get accustomed to the data collection.
