We often discuss monarchs as a flagship species for conservation, meaning that habitat conservation and restoration specifically for monarchs also provides valuable resources for a variety of other pollinators and wildlife. Taking a similar approach, Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever dedicate their efforts to the conservation of pheasants, quail and other wildlife across the nation. Bringing together the efforts of these organizations will have an even greater impact on habitat conservation throughout the U.S. We are delighted to welcome Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever to the MJV partnership!
Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever work with private landowners on a daily basis providing assistance with enrollment into federal, state and local conservation programs. This assistance impacts over one million acres per year. Much of their work also involves designing seeding mixtures to be planted on those conservation program acres. To help ensure that monarch breeding and migration habitat is available, Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever have already been promoting the use of milkweed (Asclepias) species and important fall nectar species in these seeding mixtures, providing higher plant diversity important for ground nesting birds.
In addition to on-the-ground restoration projects, Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever have an incredible network of chapters and members throughout the country who are actively engaging in conservation and outdoor recreation activities. With over 740 chapters in 38 states, we’re excited to partner in merging and spreading our conservation messages for an even greater impact.
