Alexa Koch

Science & Monitoring Associate (she/her)
As a Science and Monitoring Associate, Alexa supports MJV’s conservation efforts by conducting pollinator and habitat surveys, supporting organizational GIS and database needs, and creating, and/or uplifting science and monitoring resources for MJV partners and the public. She uses both the Integrated Monarch Monitoring Program (IMMP) and cutting-edge remote sensing technology to quantify the density of common milkweed and other pollinator-friendly plants. Alexa is from the Twin Cities, Minnesota, where she graduated from the University of Minnesota studying Environmental Science and Spanish. There, her eyes were opened to the study of entomology & the world of pollinators during her time working at the UMN’s Cariveau Native Bee Lab and Forest Entomology Lab. Alexa is excited to be working with MJV to help support monarch populations while widening the scope of her understanding of pollinator ecology and habitat restoration work. Outside of work, she loves camping and hiking, roller skating, baking, music, and fiber arts.
