Alexa Koch
Department of Defense Science & Monitoring Associate (she/her)
As the Department of Defense (DoD) Science and Monitoring Associate, Alexa supports MJV’s conservation efforts by conducting pollinator and habitat surveys on Department of Defense installations throughout the Midwest region. She uses the Integrated Monarch Monitoring Program (IMMP) protocol to assess the presence of milkweed and other pollinator-friendly plants, as well as monitor for the presence of adult monarch butterflies. Alexa is from the Twin Cities, Minnesota, where she graduated from the University of Minnesota studying Environmental Science and Spanish. There, her eyes were opened to the study of entomology & the world of pollinators during her time working at the UMN’s Cariveau Native Bee Lab and Forest Entomology Lab. Alexa is excited to be working with MJV to help support monarch populations while widening the scope of her understanding of pollinator ecology and habitat restoration work. Outside of work, she loves camping and hiking, roller skating, baking, music, and fiber arts.
