The Monarch Joint Venture (MJV) is excited to continue our partnership with the Covia Foundation to grow pollinator habitat and engage employees in conservation across the central United States.

In 2024, the collaboration distributed nearly 5,000 milkweed plugs to Covia employees and launched a pollinator habitat project at Covia’s Cleburne, Texas plant, which is expected to be installed later this year. Building on that success, the partnership will expand in 2025 to include:

  • New demonstration habitat at Covia’s Roff, Oklahoma facility, adding over 20 acres of pollinator-friendly space along the monarch’s migratory pathway.

  • Seed packet distribution to Covia employees, providing a hands-on way for more than 1,000 staff to support monarchs and other pollinators right at home.

  • Tagging efforts in Fall 2025 coordinated by MJV in conjunction with local Roff Public Schools, Oklahoma Monarch Society, and Covia employees at the Roff, OK facility.

  • Ongoing mission support, bolstering MJV’s science, education, habitat conservation, and partnership programs nationwide.

The continued partnership supports the conservation of monarch butterflies and other pollinators. It also reflects Covia’s growing commitment to sustainability and corporate social responsibility, creating tangible benefits for both the environment and local communities.

“We’re incredibly proud of the impact our partnership with the Monarch Joint Venture is making—not just for monarchs and pollinators, but for our employees and the communities where we live and work,” said Kristin Lewis, Manager, Community Relations at Covia. “From planting milkweed to expanding habitat across our facilities, this collaboration is a powerful example of how sustainability and employee engagement can come together to create lasting change.”

“Working with Covia is a great example of how partnerships can really drive lasting change for monarchs and other pollinators,” said Jake Koenig, Eastern Habitat Program Manager at Monarch Joint Venture. “By getting employees involved and restoring habitat in key locations along the monarch’s migratory route, we’re not just helping this iconic species – we’re also supporting biodiversity and healthier ecosystems that benefit well beyond a single species. Support from partners and funders like Covia is essential to scaling this impact across the landscape.”

By working together, Covia and MJV are making it easier for employees and communities to take direct action for monarchs and pollinators. Every seed packet planted and every acre restored brings us closer to ensuring the monarch’s remarkable migration continues for generations to come. Together, we can make a difference for monarchs and the ecosystems we all depend on.
