- Buckley Space Force Base
Buckley’s Natural Resources Program is working to restore approximately 1,000 acres of shortgrass prairie habitat by planting native nectar-rich plants and milkweed species to support monarchs and other pollinators. The Natural Resources Program is also partnering with Monarch Joint Venture and Monarch Watch to implement the Integrated Monarch Monitoring Program and Monarch Watch Tagging Program on the installation. June 17-23, 2024, is Pollinator Week! Initiated and managed by Pollinator Partnership, National Pollinator Week was designated in 2008 by the U.S. Senate as a necessary step toward addressing the urgent issue of declining pollinator populations. In the years since Pollinator Week has grown into an international celebration of all that pollinators do for our ecosystems and an opportunity to spread the word about what we can do to protect them. Although the agency misses many Endangered Species Act deadlines, it appears determined to meet this one after several years of study. Read More
AIM Team sets standard for monarch conservation
Aligned with the goals of monarch conservation, educational outreach, research, monitoring and data sharing, the AIM Team is leading the way in data collection and was recognized with the Data Champion Award by Monarch Joint Venture. In 2018, AIM Team became the first and only DOD installation to partner with Monarch Joint Venture — a partnership of federal and state agencies, non-governmental organizations, businesses and academic programs.
