MJV Partnership Welcomes Unique Places To Save!

Unique Places To Save (UP2S) was founded to move beyond barriers to address unmet needs in the fields of natural and cultural heritage, farming, community and technology. With partners and projects spanning the Carolinas, UP2S has the opportunity to lead a bi-state effort in developing and improving monarch habitat and become a monarch conservation leader in North Carolina.

UP2S focuses on transforming conservation properties into community assets so that conservation remains relevant to people of all ages. Each new partnership is the start of a different project with a variety of goals, ranging from economic development and place-making to the relocation of historic buildings and city planning.

“Unique Places To Save has a unique model for working with the land and those that manage the land to enhance the natural environment. MJV welcomes them in working across the Carolinas to integrate monarch conservation actions with a variety of stakeholders,” says Wendy Caldwell, MJV Coordinator.

UP2S works on a number of conservation sites, ranging from community-focused conservation properties to stream and wetland mitigation sites. Their two main sites include a 17-acre Honeysuckle Tea House and Farm and a 210 acre arboretum where existing habitats serve to educate visitors on the importance of monarchs and other pollinators.

“We are thrilled to join other conservation partners in representing monarch conservation and recovery in North and South Carolina. The Monarch Joint Venture is an ideal way for us to educate communities about the ways we are enhancing habitat for monarchs and other pollinators,” says David Harper, Executive Director of Unique Places To Save.
